As Hurricane Sandy rolled into NYC, editors and agents were distracted by the announcement that the rumors were true. Penguin was going to join Random House. A lot is still up in the air about this merger, but it looks like imprints from both companies will remain as they are, so authors will still have a wide arena for their books to play the publishing game. It’s possible, however, that advances might be lower than they would be if Penguin and Random House were bidding against each other. Time will tell.
